I recently found a family Bible at the Maryland Historical
Society. My g-g-g grandmother was
Susan McManamy (b.13Sept1795 and d. 31Oct1854), Susan
married William C. Cornwell on 10
November1817. William and Susan McMamamy
Cornwell lived in the Borough of Columbia, Hempfield Township,
Lancaster County, Pennsylvania from before 1818 until about 1830
when they moved to Lower Chanceford,
York County, Pennsylvania. In the Bible is also noted:
"Elizabeth McManamy died September the 20th
1846, aged 84, at Manor, York County, PA." and "John
McManamy died May 20th 1840 (or, 1846)
at Hope, Mifflin County, Pa." Any
additional information on the family and their ancestry would be
greatly appreciated. Please contact Ginny at

I'm looking for info on my GGGgrandfather Francis McMenemy (spelling varies) in 1856 at son Daniel's marriage. He was a Hardware Manufacturer. In 1826, when Daniel was born, he lived in Campeltown, Argyll. Info on siblings of Daniel would be most welcome. Contact marjorie@petteril.fsnet.co.uk
Since I
have just started some research on the McMenamin name I could use
some help. My great-great grandfather
George Dougherty, a subject of the United Kingdom and
Ireland born around 1775 came to
Philadelphia and became a naturalized citizen
1798-1802. George was married to Mary
McManamin they had a son Captain William Franklin
Dougherty, born in 1839 in Philadelphia died 1909 in Reading PA. I
am not sure if there were other siblings but I am thinking George
and Mary got married around 1872 either in Ireland or here. I have
no idea which town or parish my great-great grandparents were from
in Ireland but I'm assuming Donegal. According to DNA research and
testing the Doughertys and the McMenamins were descended from High
King Niall of the Nine Hostages. The Doughertys were
raised Episcopalian until around 1910 when my grandfather married an
irish catholic and all the children were raised catholic. Any info
greatly appreciated

I am looking for descendants
of my Great Aunt, Susan McClintock (Born

children (Patrick, Annie, Catherine, Elizabeth, Charles, Mary and John).
All the children (except John) and the parents emigrated in 1930's to
Philadelphia, USA. Feel free to email me

Searching for my great
grandparents: My grandfather
Patrick (Paddie) James McMenamin was born in
Castlefinn (Donaghmore parish) around 1917. His mother's
name was Eliza Jane but I don't have a
surname. His father, possibly called James, had a pub called McMenamin's
in Main Street,
Castlefinn which is still there today. He
married Sarah (Sadie) Slavin (born in
Strabane, Tyrone) on 26 th December 1950 and they
emigrated to the UK soon after. Please contact

Owen McMenamin, Boston. Looking for connections - Owen, 38 yrs old, was living in Boston for the 1900 census with Ellen McMenamin, 15 yrs old and Mary McMenamin, 13 yrs old. Owen was born May 1862, Ellen Aug 1885 and Mary 1887. All were born in MA. Owen's parents were born in Ireland. At the time, Owen was a bartender, Ellen an apprentice dressmaker, and Mary was in school. I've heard that the family was Scottish, so perhaps the missing mother was from Scotland? Email me at bsogliuzzo@yahoo.com I am related to the Boston branch of the McMenimen family. My grandfather, Daniel A. Whelton, who was the first native born Irish-American mayor of Boston (1905), had cousins named McMenimen. The only two I know by name are Capt. Bill McMenimen of the Cambridge, Mass. Police Dept., and Walter McMenimen who worked for the Great Western Pullman Company, out of Chicago. I am trying to determine how this family is related to mine. If you know anything about these McMenimens or have any suggestions on how to learn more about them, please contact me. I would be most grateful. Clark Whelton at cwhelton@mindspring.com . I am looking for information on Patrick McMenamin of Co. Donegal who married Mary Ann Magee daughter of John Magee and Catherine Herron. Patrick McMenamin's daughter married a William McBreen and they lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Ring any bells for anyone? Wanting to learn more about Patrick McMenamin's family. Thanks! Contact Father Magee at Augie627@netscape.net . I'm searching for any information or leads on my grandfather, Phillip McMenomey, birthplace unknown. He had a sister named Kate, who married a Jackson. My grandfather married Bridget Sweeney sometime in the1880's and they had 8 children: Kathleen, Mary, Margaret, James, my dad Phillip, Elizabeth, William and Rose. All of them are gone now. I know from our family burial site that my grandfather died in October of 1914. Any help would be appreciated. Please contact Maeve at MaySail@aol.com . Does anyone have a James McMenamin, or various spellings, born in Sligo around 1820's, joined the British army in 1847, married Margaret (De Camp) (O'Toole) in Athlone in 1864. Unsure when they had the following: Ellen, Henry, Margaret. In 1871 they had Susan born in Athlone as was Stephen in 1872. Census 1901 for Garston, England has a Delia down as aged 27 and born in Limerick but I can't find her birth cert. Elizabeth was born in 1879 also in Athlone. James was discharged from the army in 1869 (the Garston 1901 census also has Ellen down as born in Pembrook and beside it had ONS but not sure what that means) at the Pembrooke docks. He died in 1886, daughter Ellen was present at death. Anyone researching the same family or with any advice on how to find about the births of James and Margaret's other children., please contact Carol at mrs.mitchell@sympatico.ca . I am seeking information about ROSE McMENAMIN, and her family, from Egglybane, County Donegal. She was born about 1853. On June 17, 1869 she married Patrick Kelly at the RC Chapel in Sessiagh O'Neill, County Donegal. Rose's father's name was Hugh McMenamin. Please contact Joe at joepfarrel@aol.com .
I am a
McManamy and am searching for gg grandparents John McManamy & Bridget Connor
who were married at Manchester Cathedral in Lancaster,
Pennsylvania on October 5, 1850.
His father was Hugh, hers was Michael. John & Bridget ended up on a farm in
Christiana, Pennsylvania. I remember someone saying long ago we were third
generation from Ireland - County Galway. Haven't
come across any of my McManamys on the BBs yet. Any info would be greatly
appreciated. Please contact
Mac195@aol.com . I am searching for my ancestors. According to her death certificate, my grandmother was the daughter of Hugh McLean/McLane and a Roseann McMenamin and was born in County Donegal about February 11, 1887. Her name was Susan Agnes McLean/McLane and she married a John Joseph O'Leary after she emigrated to the U.S. sometime around 1913. They had two daughters - Margaret Rosemary who was born in 1920 and Susan Agnes who was born December 1921. Susan was my mother. Family history says that my grandmother had many siblings. I only know of one by name - Michael McLean/McLane who died in New York in the late 1940's. If anyone knows of my great grandmother McMenamin's family, I would really like to hear from them. Susan Maureen Margaret Lemley Scott at toria@citlink.net . I would like to learn more about my grandfather Robert McMenemy. He was born in the US. His father Bernard was from Ireland although I found his marriage license in Scotland. Apparently Bernard was married there and then left for the US from Glasgow on the ship Warren in 1847, the middle of the Famine. My grandfather Robert was born in New York and I found his family in the 1880 census in Scranton, PA. Some I found in Philadelphia in the 1990 census and my grandfather had moved to Pittsburg and married my grandmother. Robert had an older brother Louis who seems to have vanished off the face of the earth. The day the census was taken in 1880 he was home with a pistol wound so who knows what he could have been involved in. I believe that around that time there were a great deal of labor problems in the steel mills, Molly Maguires etc. Any information on Robert, Bernard, Louis or others in the family would be appreciated. Carol McManama Van Horn at Cvhjeremiah2911@aol.com . I am searching for my GG Grandfather's place of birth circa 1816/19 in Ireland. His name was John (or Sean in Ireland?) McManemy (could have been spelled differently in Ireland). His father was from Scotland but I don't know his or his wife's name. John immigrated to Ontario, Canada, married there in 1837, was a Protestant, worked as a farmer, and is listed in the 1851/61 Canadian census. His second wife died circa 1860 in Canada. In about 1863, he moved to Saginaw, Michigan, in 1864 married Harriet Campbell, and is shown in the 1870 Michigan census. After Harriet died in 1887 he moved to Aberdeen, Washington, died there in 1893 and is buried in Fern Hill Cemetery. If you know John's birthplace in Ireland or anything else about him, please contact Betty at BCKTUC@msn.com .
The farthest
back I have been able to trace my husband Craig's family is
to his grandfather, Edward MacMenomay,
who was born in 1909, in New Jersey
we believe. Edward changed his last name from
McMenomay to MacMenomay about fifty years ago.
I have an exhaustive list of the contemporary MacMenomays
as well as their descendants . If you are interested in this
list or have any additional information on the
MacMenomays/McMenomays please contact
jcafv1@gtcinternet.com . I am trying to find information on a great grand uncle Charles Edward Joseph McMenamin (called just Edward or Ned at times). He went to New York from Lisnakelly Buncrana Donegal. His wife was Margaret Mc Laughlin also of Buncrana. They had four children John born 1866 in Buncrana ,Rose born 1875, Edward born 1877 and Annie born 1879. They ended up living in Brooklyn. I cannot find Ned's death cert; he seems to disappear off the Brooklyn directory in 1900. Nor do I know anything about John his son. He may have had a son a priest but I don't know where. Any info would be greatly appreciated; e-mail me at martinmcmenamin@hotmail.com My great great grandfather was John McMenamin born 1806 in Co. Donegal. John's father's name was William and they were all farmers. On 15 January 1864 in Strabane, Co. Tyrone, John married Anne Boyle, born 1843. They lived in Ballybogan, Co. Donegal, and had a son William born about 1872. William later went to Scotland. I am seeking to find siblings of all parties and also a possible previous marriage of John's. If you have any information please contact Tara at tarab@centurytel.net . I'm looking for the Scottish origins of these McMenamins. James McMenamin b.abt.1842, Ireland, parents unknown as yet; Johanna Martin b. abt 1842,Ireland ,wed 1861, location unknown. Johanna is the daughter of Jane Carr b.abt.1811, Ireland and Bernard Martin b.?, Ireland. Johanna had one brother born Ireland that I know of. I'm told that Donegal is probably the area in Ireland that they came from. James and Johanna (Jane) Martin had the following children, Jane McMenamin b.1864,Scotland and six more born in Pa., U.S.: Joanna b.1870, James b.1871, John b.1875, Celia b.1877, Margaret b.1879, Grace b.1884. Bernard Martin and Jane Carr had two known children: John Martin b.1848,Ireland and Cecilia Martin b.1860,Scotland. So, sometime after 1848 and before 1860 this family moved to Scotland and then emigrated to U.S.1869. I've searched "Scots Origins" with no luck. Should the Scottish Records Office be the next step or is there a better place? If anyone recognizes this family please contact Margaret at jlong1@nc.rr.com . I have a James McMenamin to search out, born in Co. Donegal in a place called Sebag, which unfortunately doesn't seem to exist. He was reputedly orphaned and brought up by a priest's housekeeper (in the family?) and shocked them by running to the army to avoid the seminary. The family bought him out - he went back a week later! He married Mary O'Shea, also of Donegal, b 1854. Anyway, he was in the 3 Staffordshire militia at the 1881 census, in Whittington, Staffs. His son William was born in 1874, in Ireland according to the census. There were 8 children altogether, but only the one line carried on. William married Louisa Myler in Liverpool in 1903, and was killed at Ypres in 1915, leaving three children. Is this any use to anyone, and can anyone help with the origins of James and Mary? Terry McMenamin, Derbyshire, England at terry@tmcmenamin.freeserve.co.uk . My great grandmother Ann(e) McMenamin, probably born in New Brunswick Canada in the 1850's, married a John or Phillip or John Phillip Sullivan and my grandmother, Dora Mae, was born to them there in April, 1885. Sullivan was married twice; I know my grandmother had stepsisters but I don't know which marriage was first. Dora Mae married Richard Haskell, I think in New York. I can trace the Haskell name back to Gloucester, Massachusetts and then back to Somerset, England. I have no documentation for the rest. It was just passed down. The name Fredricton pops up often though. It's in New Brunswick and a Roy McMenamin thought he saw property maps from Fredricton (I haven't seen them) showing that McMenamins and Sullivans had neighboring farms there. I want to know more about my grandmother and any other connections anyone might help me with and would surely appreciate it. Contact Beth at GunsSpitFire@aol.com . Neal McMenamin married Catherine Ward. Both were born in Ireland and they had two children: Barnard born 1824 and died 1 July, 1896 in Portland, Maine, and John born about 1838. Barnard McMenamin married Susan McColgan, born about 1832 in Ireland, and both are buried in South Portland, Maine. They had nine children: Mary Ann born 22 Feb. 1856, John J. born 1849 died 5 Jan. 1904, Mary Ellen b. June 1860 died 20 July 1864, Catherine born about 1864, Hannah born May 1864 died 29 Sept. 1866, Eliz. C. born about 1865 and married William Fogg, Edward H. born about 1867 married Margaret M. Riley, Barnard born July 1870 died 30 April 1900, and Fannie born 24 April 1873 died 25 April 1873. Mary Ann married Frank Blake 27 Oct. 1879 and they had at least one child, Carrie born 28 April 1881 died 25 November 1955. I believe most of the children of Barnard and Susan were born and died in Maine. I am looking mainly for information about Barnard and Susan, their parents and other siblings of theirs. If you can help, contact Betty at 2mainers@bellsouth.net . I am searching for any info on my paternal grandmother, Margaret MCMANIMAN MCHUGH, b 2/12/187 d 11/9/1960, Pittston, Pa., USA. Her parents were Michael MCMANIMON and Bridgett MALIM, no info available on them. Margaret MCMANAMON (yes, I have found a variety of spellings in family documents) had brothers James (1881-3/17/192), John and Michael, and sisters: Mrs. Michael Kearns, Mrs. James Reddington and Mrs. Tillie (Thomas) Flanelly. Tillie lived in Dunmore, Pa. but the rest I think lived in Browntown, Pittston, Luzerne City, Pa. John went by the name of MACK as did, I believe, his brothers. Margaret married James Sylvester MCHUGH, born about 1877 in Pittston (but possibly Ireland) and died in 1936 in Pittston. They lived at first in the Cork Lane section of Pittston but later at 64 Lincoln St., Browntown, Pittston from at least the 1920's, through his death in 1936 and until her death in 1960. Any hints on these MCMANIMAN's would be greatly received as I am stonewalled. Joe at jfmchugh@maine.rr.com . Here is my latest information on McMENAMIN

They lived in Arbarren Townland, Ardstraw Parish, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. They had one child that I'm aware of, Martha, born 1800. Around 1830, Martha married the boy next door, John, the son of Arthur and Susanna McGlinn. Before emigrating to the US in 1835-6, they had two daughters, Martha born in 1833 and Susanna born 1835(?). Two sons were born in Ohio, James 1837 and John B. 1840. The 1834 Tithe Aplotment Index (CD-ROM) lists P. McMenamin, Arthur McGlinn and John McGlinn in Ardstraw Parish. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Cheri.Schuffler@walgreens.com . I am researching my McMenamin ancestors. My great grandfather, James Joseph McMenamin came to America at Philadelphia in 1875 from County Donegal, Ireland. He was born in Killygordon or Ballyshannon in 1851. His parents were Patrick and Catherine. He had siblings Patrick Jr., Neil, John and Isabella (who married a McDevitt). If anyone has information on this family, please contact me, Jim McMenamin at jimcm1@msn.com . My great great grandfather John McMenamy was born June 17, 1738 in Northern Ireland, I believe in Co. Tyrone but have no proof. He died September 12, 1800 in Caswell County, North Carolina. He married Sarah Jane Roberson. I know no other information about her. She was not mentioned in his will, only his two sons Alexander, b. September 15, 1758 in Virginia, William (my line) b. June 9, 1760 in Orange County, NC and his two daughters Sarah and Jean. I am searching for John's parents and siblings and birth date and place of birth and date and place of death of his wife Sarah Jane. Information from the early 1700's seems rare and hard to find. If you can help, I'd sure appreciate it; Billy McMenamy at billybob@glade.net . Also, there is a story on David McMenemy's web site about four brothers who were Scottish Knights for Mary Queen of Scots. Can anybody verify it? Searching for ancestors or descendants of John M. 1808) and Mary McPhilney (b.1810.) They had 7 children. I'd
love to hear from anyone with any information on common ancestors. Anne Hetu at annehetu@hotmail.com . My great-grandmother, Mary McMenamin, was born in Baltimore, Maryland on February 23, 1884. Her father was William McMenamen, born September 21,1847, originally from Boston (Charleston), Massachusetts, who passed through Baltimore as a soldier (actually a 15 year-old drummer boy) during the Civil War. He returned to Baltimore after the war to marry and live. He was a glassblower, then a storekeeper. William's father was Dennis McMenamin (notice the spelling change in this generation) who also was in the Civil War and died as a prisoner in Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia. I'm guessing he was born in the1820's, possibly in Ireland. I'm trying to find the Irish connection for my McMenamin family. I believe the migration might have been County Mayo, Ireland to Glasgow, Scotland to Halifax, Nova Scotia to Boston. If you can help please e-mail Jo Ambrose at jameson@annapolis.net . 15 years, where a daughter Sarah Jane McManimen was born about 1848. The family,

They lived for a while in Philadelphia, where my grandmother was baptized at St. Francis Xavier Church on Feb. 11, 1888. They also lived in NYC and Dover, New Jersey, but I don't know when they came to America or where they lived in Donegal. My Great Uncle Patrick fought with the Fighting 69th Division, lived at 770 10th Ave. when he enlisted in 1917, and later was the chief building inspector for New York City. I am told he led the St. Pat's Parade for many years and that my grandmother, who died at age 39, helped to make Alice Roosevelt's wedding dress. Relatives say the dress is at the Smithsonian, although I haven't been able to find it. I have looked for the family in census records, but with no luck. I would be extremely grateful for any info about my grandmother's family; Joan Slavin opifex10@bellatlantic.net . Anyone with information on any of the above please contact me at tishbud@bc.sympatico.ca . Interested in finding out anything about my second great grandfather, Charles McMenamin. He was born about 1810 in Co.Donegal and married Margaret Fox. Their daughter, Mary, was born about 1830 in Donegal and died in Glencovitt (probably Glencovet), Ballybofey, Donegal. On July 16, 1850 in Ballybofey, Mary married Michael Marley who was born in Donegal and died in Glencovet. Also looking for info about my grandfather, John Joseph Magee, believed also from Donegal, who emigrated to Philadelphia where he married a Bridget Marley. If any of this sounds familiar, please e-mail me at mcmanman@efn.org . I have just a tidbit of information on a Bridget McManiman (that's the way it's spelled on her tombstone). She died Feb. 23, 1855 at the age of 20 years and 1 month and was a native of Donaghmore Parish, Co. Donegal. Her husband was Thomas Burns (we think it was BYRNE) from Co. Carlow. Bridget is buried at St. James Sag Bridge Cemetery, Lemont, Illinois, USA, south of Chicago. As far as I know, no children came of this marriage. I would like to find the family she belonged to. She was my great great grandfather's (Thomas Burns or Byrne) first wife. I don't know where they married or when. If you can help, please contact GAineByrne@aol.com . I'm seeking more information about my father's family heritage in the St. Johns, New Brunswick area of Canada. My dad, Joseph Thomas Francis David Peter McMenamin, was born in 1920 in St. John. Willie's dad was Thomas Louis McMenamin, born in 1860 in Portland in Canada, and his mom was Margaret Robinson from Queenstown. My grandfather, James Andrew McMenamin, was born and lived in Greenock, Scotland in the late 1800's. His family had emigrated from Letterkenny. The family was associated with a property known as "Bridge End Farm" or "Bridge House." The property was associated with some railway development. He emigrated at the end of the century to America and then to Canada and worked in sugar mills. I have found his marriage certificate in 1901 in Montreal. Anyone with information or documentation from Scotland please contact me at 4McM@compuserve.com . I am looking for the family of my great grand uncle, William McMenamin, born in Ballybofey, Co. He had three sisters, Fanny who married a James Boyce from Ballybofey, and Catherine and Bridget who are believed to have lived in Connecticut. I am searching for the Townland that the following McMenimens left in the mid 1860's. They arrived in Hazelton, PA and then relocated to Mason City, Iowa in 1878. Sailing with John (1828-1904) and Ann (nee Shovelin) McMenimen was John's sister Hannah (1850-1914) who married Thomas Sharp. Loretta's children were James, Margaret (b.1919 d.1920), Walter, Lorraine (my mother), and two sets of twins who died at birth or in infancy. Loretta died ~1933 in Brooklyn, NY and is buried in St. John's Cemetery in Queens.
